    Time: 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Location: Schulich School of Business, Room N109
Description: A McKinsey & Company study shows that cutting carbon is very profitable: 40% of the carbon emissions required in North America to achieve the Kyoto Protocol targets are profitable - and if the profit is invested in the next least cost solutions achieving all of the Kyoto reductions would have no cost to society. It's important to note that this is not a radical, environmental group stating this but the pre-eminent management consulting firm worldwide. Going green is profitable because 1) it cuts costs; 2) raises revenue - because 80% of Canadians want to deal with a green company; and 3) it mitigates risk of rising energy prices.

Is your fridge efficient? How much carbon does it take to produce an MBA graduate at York vs Toronto? The answer is a clear no, almost without exception, anywhere in the world. Yet these are important numbers if we are to deal with climate change. In almost any aspect of the world of commerce, such numbers are an essential part of decision
making. Yet, when it comes to climate change, we are working in the dark. This talk is about what we can do about changing this state of affairs.

The damage from such crises can be severe, as recently evidenced by BP, Goldman Sachs and Toyota. The impact also has spread beyond the affected companies, transcending corporate boundaries to shape the very society in which we live. This event will explore what these developments mean for companies, governments and civil society organizations.
