The Hennick Centre for Business and Law develops innovative additions to the curriculum in business and law at Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business.

For example, the Centre is currently offering an Investor Protection Seminar for upper-year law students and financial journalists.  The most recent financial crisis has highlighted the challenges in achieving effective investor protection and the critical role of the media in the process.  This advanced seminar is intended to provide an opportunity to actively explore this intersection of law, business and public policy through sustained study and dialogue between students, journalists and leading practitioners in the field.

  • This course for credit is co-taught by Ed Waitzer, Hennick Centre director and Jarislowsky Dimma Mooney Chair in Corporate Governance, and Osgoode professor and Hennick Centre co-director Poonam Puri, along with Jacquie McNish (Globe and Mail) and Ilana Singer (Canadian Foundation for the Advancement of Investor Rights - FAIR Canada). The seminar is generously supported by FAIR Canada.

The Centre is also currently offering a seminar entitled "The Art of the Deal"  that will provide an integrative experience for senior Osgoode J.D. and Schulich MBA students interested in developing a deeper and more practical understanding of the planning and execution of major business transactions.   The central focus of the course is the extensive analysis and appreciation of significant, recent business transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, initial public offerings and recapitalizations. Joint teams of MBA and J.D. students working with senior legal and investment banking practitioners are exposed to the intricacies and insights of the interaction of legal and business disciplines in practice.

  • This course for credit is taught by Ed Waitzer, Hennick Centre director and Jarislowsky Dimma Mooney Chair in Corporate Governance.

The Hennick Centre is currently at work on other proposals for cross-listed classes between Osgoode and Schulich.  Stay tuned for news about these courses and for application procedures.
