Research Support

The Hennick Centre for Business and Law supports the research efforts of scholars at Osgoode Hall Law School, the Schulich School of Business and York University in a variety of ways.

Collaborative Research Grants Program

The hallmark of the research agenda of the Hennick Centre for Business and Law is its Collaborative Research Grants Program, which awards seed grants for research support to interdisciplinary teams of faculty members and graduate students from Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business.

The Hennick Centre is pleased to announce the inaugural award of the Collaborative Research Grants Program to Professors Burkard Eberlein and Alan Richardson of the Schulich School of Business and Professor Stepan Wood of Osgoode Hall Law School for their proposal, “The Dynamics of Interaction in Transnational Business Governance Regimes”.  Read more details.

The 2010-2011 application deadline for the Collaborative Research Grants Program is February 28, 2011. See the 2010 - 2011 terms of reference.

Policy Consultations

From time to time, the Hennick Centre undertakes policy consultation efforts to advise organizations and government agencies about policy reform efforts on topics of business, law and public policy.  The Centre hosts roundtables, conducts research and publishes reports and recommendations about topics of current debate and reform.

For example, the Hennick Centre and Jantzi-Sustainalytics, with the generous support of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), hosted a policy consultation on corporate social reporting and disclosure in Toronto in December 2009.  This roundtable, along with a broader consultation process, led to the Corporate Social Reporting Initiative with recommendations to Ontario’s Minister of Finance.

Research Goals

The Hennick Centre aims to become a leader in scholarly and policy-relevant research at the intersection of business, law and public policy.  The Centre’s long-term goals include developing a colloquia series at York University in 2011-2012 for business, law and public policy faculty members to present their works-in-progress and lead interdisciplinary discussion.  Also, the Centre plans to launch an e-journal on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) to showcase such cross-disciplinary research to a wider audience.
