The Hennick Centre for Business and Law organizes lectures and speaker events on topics of business, law and public policy throughout the year. At such programs, students, practitioners and scholars come together to learn about emerging trends, cutting-edge research, policy reforms and business deals.
The Davies Fund, a signature program of the Hennick Centre, sponsors a prestigious lecture in business law each year. In October 2010, Rodgin Cohen delivered the Davies Fund for Business Law Lecture on
"the recent economic meltdown and the dawning financial era it has precipitated." In the midst of the financial crisis and its aftermath, Mr. Cohen, a partner and senior chairman at Sullivan Cromwell LLP, has remained the pre-eminent advisor to numerous major financial firms. Find more information about the Davies Fund and the 2010 lecture.
The Centre also hosts an ongoing speaker series that brings distinguished scholars and practitioners to York University, such as Hari Panday, President & CEO, ICICI Wealth Management Inc., Canada, in February 2009. Read more about Mr. Panday’s lecture, “Global trends, the emerging economies and new opportunities”.
Many of our speaker and lecture events are co-sponsored with businesses, law firms and other organizations. For example, a one-day forum in November 2010 with three leading thinkers about risk management and institutional resilience in an age of crisis, was presented jointly with the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) and Gowling, Lafleur and Henderson LLP.
